Time to Dress for Spring!

Following on the immense success of our last evening at The OPC, we have decided to reprise the event this spring. Here is all the salient information for you

Date: Wednesday 27 September 2017
Time: 7 pm
Place: 1 Sandela Court, corner Olifants and Levubu Roads, Emmarentia
Cost: R130 per person (includes snacks and drinks)

What is this? You may well ask.
Well, The OPC is a vintage clothing store. They have all sorts of amazing things in stock. Whether it is a ball gown, a wedding dress, a pair of 1990s Prada heels or a bikini from the 1960s, they have it in stock.
We are giving you this opportunity to have a sophisticated evening of socialising, meeting like-minded people and trying on these amazing clothes in a safe and accepting environment.

Plus, this is a wonderful opportunity to refresh and extend your spring and summer wardrobe with some amazing and unique clothes. Clothes that you will definitely not find in the stores. Why follow the crowd when you can be an original?

As an added bonus, Ilse Wils Chetty, a merchandise planner at Jet and a lifestyle and fashion blogger will be giving us a talk on ‘What is hot for summer and how to make it your own’. This will hopefully give us all some insight into fashion trends and some ideas for that wardrobe.

Lesley, the owner of The OPC is a member of the LGBT community and as such is welcoming and accepting. She is putting on some eats and drinks, has agreed to extend her opening hours for us and will also ensure that the interior of the shop is not visible to any prying eyes.

Some of you found the last event difficult to get to as it was on a Friday. We are hoping that by moving this to a Wednesday you will find it easier to attend. So why not come around have some fun, meet some sisters and maybe even buy some clothes (or some jewellery).

We will need to have an idea of numbers for catering purposes, so we would appreciate it if you can book with us by no later than 22 September, to book your tickets, simply click here and give us your name and number of tickets required and we will reserve your place. To pay for your tickets you can simply click on the ‘BUY NOW’ button to the right (or maybe bottom if you are using a mobile device to browse) of this page. It is just under the ‘PAY WITH PAYPAL’ heading. This will enable you to pay us using a credit card or your PayPal account (if you have one). Alternatively, please contact us and we will make an alternative arrangement for you.
Please note that this is a private event and that you must book and pay in advance. No ‘walk ins’ will be accepted.

Of course, anyone needing a place to dress for the evening, help with makeup, a place to stay or any other services should contact us so that we can assist you.

Should you have any other queries please do not hesitate to contact us. We look forward to seeing you all on 27 September.

Apologies for the confusion. Technology fail!

December Newsletter

What the… ? How did this happen? It is December already!

I would like to welcome all our new clients to the Priscilla’s fold and of course thank our existing clients for their ongoing support. It is our pleasure and our privilege to serve such an amazing group of people. It is especially nice to meet you all face to face from time to time and get to know you all a little bit better each time.

Exciting news! Irene has resigned her job as a teacher and will be devoting her time to Priscilla’s! That means that she will have more flexibility when it comes to makeovers, accompanied outings and other Priscilla’s work that you need from her. Sadly, the education system is losing a phenomenal teacher, but their loss is our gain!

As I am sure you all know we had a karaoke Party at the end of November. Thanks to Hilton and his staff. It was as ever a great evening, thank you for your hospitality. It was great to see a few new faces as well as the regulars. It was especially nice to meet some Facebook friends in person and of course catch up with all our friends and clients. Unfortunately, the massive thunderstorm kept some people away and a few confirmed guests decided not to come, but those who braved the elements seemed to have a good time.

The party was held at Trouble which has just recently moved venue. The venue is quite pleasant with an outside area where you can chill and relax. The inside area has space for a few pool tables and a dance floor. There is also apparently a private bar that is nearly ready for use. The ladies’ toilets are very nice. Far better than the previous venues toilets. They were clean and well-appointed which is not always the case when dealing with bars and pubs. The mirror was good and made doing one’s makeup touch ups easy. Some of the previous establishment’s ‘regulars’ were there and it was nice to see straight people, gay people, transgender people all intermingling and accepting each other’s basic humanity. A few brave souls sang but I think most of us were happy to ‘just be’, chat, socialise and enjoy the opportunity of being our authentic selves in a safe and accepting place.

For those who are interested, Mantopia are organising an LGBT party on 17 December. Unfortunately, I won’t be attending but Irene is available (by appointment) to help anyone with makeup and or dressing should you need her services. As usual, please contact us for details and to make the appointment. For details about the event itself, please contact Mantopia directly.

We are still looking at the possibility of organising a block booking to go and see the stage production of Priscilla Queen of the Desert which is coming to Johannesburg in April 2017. Please let us know if this is something you would be interested in doing.

July Mid-Week Outing

Hi everyone

A few of you have contacted us saying you would really like to have an outing/social evening during the week as it can be difficult to get out over the weekend. We are therefore planning a midweek outing in July for you all.

The idea is that we will go to a trans-friendly and accepting venue in Johannesburg. It will be a very positive experience and you need not worry about your ability to pass as nobody will care one way or the other.

We will arrange a facility where everyone can dress and we will also accompany everyone to the venue so there will be ‘safety in numbers’. Obviously all bookings will be done in our name and you need not worry about any privacy concerns you may have.

We are aiming for a day in the week starting 4 July. Most suitable dates seem to be 5, 6 or 7 July, but nothing is set in stone yet. Please let us know (through the Contact Us page) if you are interested in attending.

We will be happy to assist with clothing hire, bookings and makeup wherever we can. Looking forward to hearing from everyone.

Who we are and what we do

Some of you may be interested in watching a little video I put together. Our plan doesn’t allow for video on this site, so please feel free to follow this link.

Please letuse know what you think.

Thank You

As a new business we are of course beset by a few challenges. Acquiring stock for the rental side of our business was always going to be tricky as it requires a significant outlay in terms of capital expenditure. An outlay that takes some time to recoup and this can lead to cash flow challenges. A problem for any new enterprise.

I am happy to say that we have been greatly assisted by a number of members of the trans community who have donated product to us. These donations have been a huge help to us as it gives us a basis of stock to rent out without incurring massive expenses and has allowed us to add to this stock gradually with new wigs, clothes and shoes.

Some of our donors have asked to remain anonymous but those who have not will be acknowledged here:
