Vintage Clothing Evening: Reminder and Details

OK everyone, the big event of the winter is nearly upon us, so I thought we needed to give everyone all the salient information (and a gentle reminder).

Date: 14 July 2017
Time: 7 pm
Place: 1 Sandela Court, corner Olifants and Levubu Roads, Emmarentia
Cost: R115 per person (includes food and drink)

What is this? I hear you all ask. Well The OPC is a vintage clothing store. They have all sorts of amazing things in stock. Whether it is a ball gown, a wedding dress, a pair of 1990s Prada heels or a bikini from the 1960s, they have it on stock. And we are giving you this opportunity to have a sophisticated evening of socialising, meeting like minded people and trying on these amazing clothes in a safe and accepting environment.

The owner of The OPC is a member of the LGBT community and as such is welcoming and accepting. She is putting on some eats and drinks, has agreed to extend her opening hours for us and will also ensure that the interior of the shop is not visible to any prying eyes. There will also be security for our cars in the parking area in front of the shop.

So why not come round have some fun, meet some sisters and maybe even buy some clothes (or some jewelry).

We will need to have an idea of numbers for catering purposes, so we would appreciate it if you can book with us by no later than 11 July. To book your tickets, simply click here and give us your name and number of tickets required and we will reserve your place. To pay for your tickets you can simply click on the ‘BUY NOW’ button to the right (or maybe bottom if you are using a mobile device to browse) of this page. It is juts under the ‘PAY WITH PAYPAL’ heading. This will enable you to pay us using a credit card or your PayPal account (if you have one). Alternatively, please contact us and we will make an alternative arrangement for you.

Of course anyone needing a place to dress for the evening, help with makeup, a place to stay or any other services should contact us so that we can assist you.

Should you have any other queries please do not hesitate to contact us. We look forward to seeing you all on 14 July.

You will be welcomed as a member of the LGBT community regardless of your sexual preference. Being a crossdresser/transgender means you will be accepted and you will certainly not be pressured into anything you do not want… The very worst that can happen is that nobody will offer to buy you a drink/hit on you all night! Kidding! Seriously, you will be welcomed and accepted and you will be free to be yourself. If you have any concerns please do not hesitate to contact us and we will happily talk you through what to expect. As to those of you who are looking for a little romantic action… Well until you get out there, you will never know!
I hope to see you all there!

June Newsletter

Hello everyone

As usual a very big and hearty welcome to all our new and existing clients. We are really enjoying having you all on board and are happy to be able to help you be your true selves in a safe, accepting and discreet environment.

Wow, can you believe we are already in June? So much has happened this year already and we are only half way in. We look forward to working with everyone in the last half of 2017 and hope to make all your dreams come true.

We had a wonderful trip to Priscilla Queen of the Desert at the end of May. Unfortunately, we had a number of cancellations and it was a small but merry (and brave) group of us who ventured into Monte Casino on a chilly Johannesburg evening. Despite a rather empty theatre (it was a midweek evening so I suppose it was understandable) we all enjoyed the show. The wit and humour was fantastic and the production quality very good. The accents coach could have done better, but that is perhaps quibbling too much.

The Priscilla’s team were a little late arriving at Monte Casino due to some last minute and unforeseen circumstances, so we abandoned the idea of getting a pre-show cocktail at a cocktail lounge, but settled for drinks at the theatre bar. We then went in and enjoyed the show.

At the interval, we braved the queues at the ladies’ room and then went to get some more liquid refreshment at the bar. Here I met a very interested couple, the male half of whom was very interested in us. We did our best to educate him and I sincerely hope that he reaches out to us again.

After the show, we went for coffee at the Seattle Coffee shop and nattered away until very late… We then went our separate ways. As always, we were perfectly safe and happy and had no issues with security, employees or members of the public. We even (coincidentally) met some friends (the Trouble crew) who had independently decided to come out and see the show that night. What a fun night out.

The big news is that we have already made plans for a Friday night social in July. Thanks to one of our clients, we made contact with a nearby (like very nearby) vintage clothing retailer, called The OPC.

The OPC is a fantastic little shop owned by someone who is very accepting of transgender people. She is very eager to help and we thought we could also help her.

We have therefore planned a cheese and wine party at her shop on the Friday evening, 14 July 2017. You will be free to dress at Priscilla’s and then we can take you to the shop, or you can of course arrive en femme (or indeed en homme) at the shop. At the shop, you will be treated to some food and drinks, have an opportunity to browse the shop and of course try on all the clothes you would like. All in perfect safety. Your privacy will be guaranteed as Lesley will close the windows of the shop with some drapes to keep any curious eyes away. She will also ensure our cars are kept safe by employing a security guard for the evening…

So, throw on your winter frock and come joins us for an evening of socialising and fashionista fun in Emmarentia! It would be appreciated if you could give us some idea of numbers for catering purposes asap. We are of course always happy to accommodate out of towners at the studio.

In the meantime, due to popular demand, please note that we have had to reduce the number of times you can use the Studio as part of your package, from three uses a month, to two. Those of you who have already signed up will retain your three uses per month provided your membership does not expire. To all of you who have not yet joined, please sign up asap to lock in this amazing value. We did not reduce the number of complimentary uses lightly but to ensure that we are able to continue to meet demand for the venue we have had to (reluctantly) take this step.

Those of you still wondering whether it is worth trying out our services should take a look at our testimonials page and our Facebook page. We clearly have some satisfied and happy clients out there and are eager to do the same for you. In addition to the testimonials on our website and the reviews and ratings on our Facebook page, we have some examples of Irene’s work on both these platforms. Please note that the photographs taken by us have not been photoshopped or had filters applied. We only ever crop and/or compress our photographs, so the makeup work you see is the real deal. We do not try and make our work look better than it really is (please note we cannot vouch for photographs supplied by our clients, but the vast majority of photos on display were taken by us). This gives you absolute confidence that you will get what you pay for. Not nasty surprises.

On that note, we have made it easier for you to pay us. We can still accept cash payments and EFTs, but we have now installed a credit card facility at the studio and we can also take credit card payments and direct Paypal transfers via Paypal should any of these options be easier for you. We have installed a ‘pay with Paypal’ button on the web site (it is on the right-hand side of all the pages). As always, we guarantee your confidentiality as far as it is possible for us to do so (banks will of course ‘see’ any transactions). Paypal is a secure and safe system and we have full confidence in it.

On that note. Please note that we do not disclose e-mail addresses or any other contact information to anyone without the express permission of the person involved. We have had one or two people contact us requesting to meet and/or contact our clients for ‘social’ reasons. We always decline these requests. One such request led to a rather nasty Whatsapp exchange. Please be assured we put the interests of our friends and clients first and will not disclose any information (even publicly available information) without your permission. I trust that those of you reading this will understand the need for privacy.

Irene and I are looking forward to seeing you all at The OPC in July, if not sooner and please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any queries, thoughts, insights or ideas. We are always willing to listen and help.

Regards

The Priscilla’s Team

Portfolio

As you may well imagine a number of our clients are somewhat less than keen to have their photograph taken and those that have photographs are often less than willing to share them on the internet. It can therefore be hard to show off our best work.

Then again we do have one very willing model, Daniella… She has agreed to allow us to show off Irene’s handiwork through a series of photographs below. The makeup in these photos has all been done by Irene for a variety of different events. Each event is outlined in the caption.

We hope that seeing Irene’s work will give you some idea of her ability.

December Newsletter

What the… ? How did this happen? It is December already!

I would like to welcome all our new clients to the Priscilla’s fold and of course thank our existing clients for their ongoing support. It is our pleasure and our privilege to serve such an amazing group of people. It is especially nice to meet you all face to face from time to time and get to know you all a little bit better each time.

Exciting news! Irene has resigned her job as a teacher and will be devoting her time to Priscilla’s! That means that she will have more flexibility when it comes to makeovers, accompanied outings and other Priscilla’s work that you need from her. Sadly, the education system is losing a phenomenal teacher, but their loss is our gain!

As I am sure you all know we had a karaoke Party at the end of November. Thanks to Hilton and his staff. It was as ever a great evening, thank you for your hospitality. It was great to see a few new faces as well as the regulars. It was especially nice to meet some Facebook friends in person and of course catch up with all our friends and clients. Unfortunately, the massive thunderstorm kept some people away and a few confirmed guests decided not to come, but those who braved the elements seemed to have a good time.

The party was held at Trouble which has just recently moved venue. The venue is quite pleasant with an outside area where you can chill and relax. The inside area has space for a few pool tables and a dance floor. There is also apparently a private bar that is nearly ready for use. The ladies’ toilets are very nice. Far better than the previous venues toilets. They were clean and well-appointed which is not always the case when dealing with bars and pubs. The mirror was good and made doing one’s makeup touch ups easy. Some of the previous establishment’s ‘regulars’ were there and it was nice to see straight people, gay people, transgender people all intermingling and accepting each other’s basic humanity. A few brave souls sang but I think most of us were happy to ‘just be’, chat, socialise and enjoy the opportunity of being our authentic selves in a safe and accepting place.

For those who are interested, Mantopia are organising an LGBT party on 17 December. Unfortunately, I won’t be attending but Irene is available (by appointment) to help anyone with makeup and or dressing should you need her services. As usual, please contact us for details and to make the appointment. For details about the event itself, please contact Mantopia directly.

We are still looking at the possibility of organising a block booking to go and see the stage production of Priscilla Queen of the Desert which is coming to Johannesburg in April 2017. Please let us know if this is something you would be interested in doing.

Please remember that with effect from 1 January 2017 storage/rental fees will be increasing from R250 per month to R350 per month.

As noted last month, we are now offering membership packages in addition to the ad hoc services we offer. These packages offer considerable value to you and allow you to budget more easily than in the past. We will be launching them officially in 2017 as soon as the venue becomes available, but we are pleased to offer all existing contacts an ‘early bird’ special. If you sign up and pay in advance for a package before 31 January 2017 you will get your first month’s membership free. Karaoke!

We have finalised a date for the planned karaoke evening at Trouble.

The details are as follows:
Wednesday 30 November 7-30 pm to late.
Trouble Bar 4299 Knoppiesdoring Road Randpark Ridge (that is the entrance, but the bar overlooks Beyers Naude). It is a block north of Lifestyle Nursery on Beyers Naude and is thus easily reached from the highway.
Entry fee is R75 which gets you a complimentary drink (on presentation of the ticket) and additional discounts. Contact us for details re tickets.

Priscilla’s staff will of course be available to assist those of you who may need help with shopping, makeup etc before heading out to Trouble. Please book any services you may need.
Please check out our latest newsletter for details regarding membership options as well.

There is a Facebook event that you can take  a look at as well.

In the interests of transparency, please note that access to Trouble is FREE the R75 ticket charge is a fee that is being levied by Priscilla’s, NOT Trouble. This is being done to defray some of the expenses that we at Priscilla’s Services incur when organising these events for you our valued Priscilla’s clients. Frankly if we do not make some money out of these events it is simply not worth our while to organise them and then we all lose. We have therefore charged a smallish fee and are giving value back in an effort to make this financially worthwhile for us and to ensure that we can continue to offer these events that so many of you quite clearly want.
Anyone is welcome to attend the karaoke evening at Trouble (whether a Priscilla’s client or not) and as I noted there is no cover charge at Trouble this is a Priscilla’s fee. So you can attend the karaoke evening as a guest of Priscilla’s and pay or attend on your own and not pay a cent other than the drinks you consume. This is your choice.

So why should you pay the fee, I hear you all ask?
Well, we are offering a complimentary drink as well as additional discounts on the Priscilla’s services you may use going forward which equates to the same value as the cost of the ticket on the evening.  If you would rather not pay the fee, that is your choice, but then you do not get the value that we are creating through the ticketing process.

The ticketing system is also a way of us confirming numbers, seeing that people who say they are attending actually attend and ensuring that this becomes a financially worthwhile exercise for us.

Sorry for the long justification but it seems some people out there think we are trying to extort money from people. This is not our intention at all. We are simply finding ways of making this economically viable for us and meeting the needs of our clients.

Looking forward to seeing you all at Trouble on 30 November.

Report Back: Cocktail Party 22 October

Well, that was fun!
We held our first ever Saturday night event in collaboration with Mantopia on 22 October. After a frenzied final week where a number of people cancelled on us (all due to good reasons that we fully understand) and even more new bookings, we were expecting around 30 people to arrive on the night. Unfortunately a number of people had last minute emergencies and complications and we thus achieved a far lower attendance but it was still an acceptable turnout and we all had fun.

Mantopia is normally used as a venue for gay and bisexual men to get together and they share premises with a BDSM club as well. The venue thus has several rooms with lockable doors that we used as dressing rooms on the night giving our clients a place to get ready in private. You can thus arrive en homme and transform en site before the party, have a fantastic evening en femme and then re-transform before returning home. In many ways, it is ideal for many of us. Of course the venues ‘usual’ function is evident from the various ‘extra’s’ on offer and unfortunately the lighting is on the muted side making makeup application a bit of a challenge but we will be able to fix this going forward. There is a fabulous dance floor in the main ‘club’ section with a number of tables and chairs as well as an excellent bar with a number of very competent barmen. There is also a pool table although we did not use it on the night. The view of the Gauteng skyline from the club is phenomenal although it is not maximised. With some redesign you could really have a fantastic view of the panorama but I understand why they have kept things enclosed.

We had planned on arriving early but as always makeup and getting ready takes longer than expected and we arrived just after 7 pm. Fortunately, T (one of our co-hosts) was already there and showed us around. we set up in one of the rooms. Irene had helped with my make up at home and I was feeling fabulous and we took some photographs whilst we waited for people to arrive.

Irene looked fabulous in her brand new red corset.

After a short wait J and K arrived and then SJ and K arrived followed by N (who came alone) and then SQ and A arrived, having trekked from the West Rand. That was all our guests accounted for and I was glad that they were all there safe and sound. Finally,  J and F (not from Priscilla’s) arrived just after D (another co-host). J went and got changed and emerged in her blonde glory. It is always wonderful to see people transform and to see how much happier they seem when en femme.

It is worth noting that apart from N, T and myself all the other gurls were experiencing their first time out dressed. There was a great deal of nervousness and I am sure a little anxiety. This is to be expected. Your first time out dressed is a time filled with emotions and energies you have never experienced before. You are self-conscious and feel odd… You are simply not used to the clothes you are wearing and often wearing makeup, wigs, heels and unfamiliar fabrics leads to something of a sensory overload.

In any event, we did our very best to make everyone feel comfortable and at home. Irene, T, D and I circulated regularly throughout the evening and having a cash bar on hand helped people relax. It was good to talk to people and everyone realised that they were not alone. There were other people just like them on similar journeys and with similar experiences, expectations and concerns. It was nice to see so many partners out as well. It is always good to have the support of a close friend or romantic partner and as it turns out they had all had a lot of fun helping their other halves dress on the night: having a transgender significant other is certainly not without its benefits it seems.

We did not have a DJ on the night but T and D had a play list on hand and it was nice to be able to talk without too much competition from a DJ who thinks s/he is the most important person in the room and thus plays everything at the maximum volume. Irene and I were in the mood to dance, a little, and so we did, a little… But everyone else was a little shy so we didn’t push it. The dance floor is excellent in that it is a proper sprung wooden floor, not just a piece of concrete cleared of chairs, which is sadly so often the case in many a club these days.

D had provided some very yummy finger eats, including prawns, meat balls, samoosas and other nibbles. I enjoyed my snacks immensely and the bartender was very skilled managing to make a pink drink (I do love my pink drinks) out of entirely non-alcoholic ingredients (I am not able to drink alcohol any more due to my dodgy liver). So, the food and drink were not only delicious but plentiful as well.

We have received some wonderful feedback from various people so far and below are just two of the fantastic comments received:
‘I really enjoyed it and the time flew by so quickly.”
‘ I honestly had such a good time on Saturday, I can’t really see how that could be made better.  Safe environment with like-minded people, I really enjoyed being out.’
After a few drinks some good conversation and more than a few laughs everyone left feeling content and happy.

We have already pencilled in the next Saturday night event (once again at Mantopia) for 17 December and we are also planning a mid-week outing for November (possibly a karaoke evening at Trouble. Anyone interested in Halloween parties should check out both Mantopia and Trouble as both are hosting parties on 29 October. These are not being done in conjunction with Priscilla’s Services but they do loom a lot of fun and there will certainly be a lot of crossdressers and other transgender folk at Trouble’s party. You can get excellent Halloween costumes from Lola Montez. She is very trans friendly, but if you are anxious we could also source something from her on your behalf (just give me a shout as soon as possible). I was there just a few weeks ago and she has a good selection of items in stock including a maid’s outfit, nurse’s outfits etc. We (Priscilla’s) also have a police woman’s outfit in stock (in addition to the usual selection of wigs, shoes etc) should anyone want to hire something and of course Irene is on hand to assist with makeup.

Thank you to everyone who came and who made it such a memorable evening for everyone who was there. We are looking forward to seeing more of you out there soon.
