December Newsletter

What the… ? How did this happen? It is December already!

I would like to welcome all our new clients to the Priscilla’s fold and of course thank our existing clients for their ongoing support. It is our pleasure and our privilege to serve such an amazing group of people. It is especially nice to meet you all face to face from time to time and get to know you all a little bit better each time.

Exciting news! Irene has resigned her job as a teacher and will be devoting her time to Priscilla’s! That means that she will have more flexibility when it comes to makeovers, accompanied outings and other Priscilla’s work that you need from her. Sadly, the education system is losing a phenomenal teacher, but their loss is our gain!

As I am sure you all know we had a karaoke Party at the end of November. Thanks to Hilton and his staff. It was as ever a great evening, thank you for your hospitality. It was great to see a few new faces as well as the regulars. It was especially nice to meet some Facebook friends in person and of course catch up with all our friends and clients. Unfortunately, the massive thunderstorm kept some people away and a few confirmed guests decided not to come, but those who braved the elements seemed to have a good time.

The party was held at Trouble which has just recently moved venue. The venue is quite pleasant with an outside area where you can chill and relax. The inside area has space for a few pool tables and a dance floor. There is also apparently a private bar that is nearly ready for use. The ladies’ toilets are very nice. Far better than the previous venues toilets. They were clean and well-appointed which is not always the case when dealing with bars and pubs. The mirror was good and made doing one’s makeup touch ups easy. Some of the previous establishment’s ‘regulars’ were there and it was nice to see straight people, gay people, transgender people all intermingling and accepting each other’s basic humanity. A few brave souls sang but I think most of us were happy to ‘just be’, chat, socialise and enjoy the opportunity of being our authentic selves in a safe and accepting place.

For those who are interested, Mantopia are organising an LGBT party on 17 December. Unfortunately, I won’t be attending but Irene is available (by appointment) to help anyone with makeup and or dressing should you need her services. As usual, please contact us for details and to make the appointment. For details about the event itself, please contact Mantopia directly.

We are still looking at the possibility of organising a block booking to go and see the stage production of Priscilla Queen of the Desert which is coming to Johannesburg in April 2017. Please let us know if this is something you would be interested in doing.

Please remember that with effect from 1 January 2017 storage/rental fees will be increasing from R250 per month to R350 per month.

November Newsletter

This year has flown by we are already in November and soon the mad rush around Christmas will be in full swing. I hope that everyone is not too busy trying to wrap up all those projects that were started but not yet completed and that you are all finding the time to be the real you amidst the rush.

As usual I would like to welcome all our new clients to the Priscilla’s fold and also thank all our existing clients for your ongoing support. It is our pleasure and our privilege to serve such an amazing group of people. It is especially nice to meet you all face to face from time to time and get to know you all a little bit better each time.

As I am sure you all know we had a lovely Saturday night Cocktail Party in late October. If you missed it, you can read all about it here.
We are planning a second Saturday night event, once again in conjunction with Mantopia on 17 December. More about that in later messages.
We are also arranging a midweek outing to Trouble on a Wednesday night in November. Wednesday nights are Trouble’s karaoke nights. Unfortunately I will not be able to sing -the karaoke machine manufacturers have all taken out restraining orders against me, but I will certainly be joining you for all the fun. We will be sending out more details in a few days time for those who are interested.
We are also looking at the possibility of organising a block booking to go and see the stage production of Priscilla Queen of the Desert which is coming to Johannesburg in April 2017.
We would as always love to hear from you what specific outings and socials may interest you.

On a related note, please note that we have had to start charging a small administration fee for our outings. Whilst it is wonderful to meet you all and spend time with you, the organisation takes quite a lot of effort and we need to recover some of our expenses. We will therefore be charging a fee per outing. Each outing’s fee will be advised on an ad hoc basis. This fee will be in addition to any cover charges, ticket costs etc that maybe charged by the venue.

We have started purchasing the tiles, some of the fittings and have approved the quote for work to commence on our permanent venue. We should start work on 19 December and we hope to be up and running very early in 2017.

We have had a marked increase in demand for storage in recent months. We have therefore had to increase our monthly storage/rental fee. With effect from 1 January 2017 rental fess will be increasing from R250 per month to R350 per month. Anyone who is on a long term package will only experience the price increase from the time that they renew their rental.

We have decided to start offering membership packages in addition to the ad hoc services we offer. These packages offer considerable value to you and allow you to budget more easily than in the past. We will be launching them officially in 2017 as soon as the venue becomes available, but we are pleased to offer all existing contacts an ‘early bird’ special. If you sign up and pay in advance for a package before 31 January 2017 you will get your first month’s membership free. Membership can be paid for in advance on a monthly, semi-annual or annual basis. Membership is only valid as long as you are a paid up member. Semi-annual and annual memberships enjoy discounted rates, contact us for a quote if you want to pay on this basis.

All memberships include up to three uses of our permanent facility per month (this will only be redeemable as and when the venue becomes available). Please note that the use of the facility needs to be booked and it is available on a first come first served basis. We cannot guarantee availability and you can only book the facility a maximum of six weeks in advance. Unused bookings of the facility will incur a penalty of R250 per incident. This is done to prevent people from abusing the system and block booking the facility when they have no intention of using it.

Notes
The shopping service works as follows: you tell us what you want to buy, your size requirements, budget and any other preferences. We then purchase these on your behalf and deliver them to you. You pay for the items at cost. Each service is rendered for a maximum of ten items per client per service. These services differ to our ‘shopping experience‘, which is when we take you shopping with us on an accompanied outing. The shopping experience is thus different and does not form part of your membership benefits at this time.
Should you have an existing rental agreement in place and want to supplement this with a membership package, please contact us so that we can assist you. We will ensure that you do not lose any value.
Unused benefits do not ‘roll over’ into subsequent periods, nor do they accumulate in any way.
Benefits are not transferable.

We look forward to seeing you all at the functions that are coming up. As always please do not hesitate to contact us if you need anything. we are here to help.

Report Back: Cocktail Party 22 October

Well, that was fun!
We held our first ever Saturday night event in collaboration with Mantopia on 22 October. After a frenzied final week where a number of people cancelled on us (all due to good reasons that we fully understand) and even more new bookings, we were expecting around 30 people to arrive on the night. Unfortunately a number of people had last minute emergencies and complications and we thus achieved a far lower attendance but it was still an acceptable turnout and we all had fun.

Mantopia is normally used as a venue for gay and bisexual men to get together and they share premises with a BDSM club as well. The venue thus has several rooms with lockable doors that we used as dressing rooms on the night giving our clients a place to get ready in private. You can thus arrive en homme and transform en site before the party, have a fantastic evening en femme and then re-transform before returning home. In many ways, it is ideal for many of us. Of course the venues ‘usual’ function is evident from the various ‘extra’s’ on offer and unfortunately the lighting is on the muted side making makeup application a bit of a challenge but we will be able to fix this going forward. There is a fabulous dance floor in the main ‘club’ section with a number of tables and chairs as well as an excellent bar with a number of very competent barmen. There is also a pool table although we did not use it on the night. The view of the Gauteng skyline from the club is phenomenal although it is not maximised. With some redesign you could really have a fantastic view of the panorama but I understand why they have kept things enclosed.

We had planned on arriving early but as always makeup and getting ready takes longer than expected and we arrived just after 7 pm. Fortunately, T (one of our co-hosts) was already there and showed us around. we set up in one of the rooms. Irene had helped with my make up at home and I was feeling fabulous and we took some photographs whilst we waited for people to arrive.

Irene looked fabulous in her brand new red corset.

After a short wait J and K arrived and then SJ and K arrived followed by N (who came alone) and then SQ and A arrived, having trekked from the West Rand. That was all our guests accounted for and I was glad that they were all there safe and sound. Finally,  J and F (not from Priscilla’s) arrived just after D (another co-host). J went and got changed and emerged in her blonde glory. It is always wonderful to see people transform and to see how much happier they seem when en femme.

It is worth noting that apart from N, T and myself all the other gurls were experiencing their first time out dressed. There was a great deal of nervousness and I am sure a little anxiety. This is to be expected. Your first time out dressed is a time filled with emotions and energies you have never experienced before. You are self-conscious and feel odd… You are simply not used to the clothes you are wearing and often wearing makeup, wigs, heels and unfamiliar fabrics leads to something of a sensory overload.

In any event, we did our very best to make everyone feel comfortable and at home. Irene, T, D and I circulated regularly throughout the evening and having a cash bar on hand helped people relax. It was good to talk to people and everyone realised that they were not alone. There were other people just like them on similar journeys and with similar experiences, expectations and concerns. It was nice to see so many partners out as well. It is always good to have the support of a close friend or romantic partner and as it turns out they had all had a lot of fun helping their other halves dress on the night: having a transgender significant other is certainly not without its benefits it seems.

We did not have a DJ on the night but T and D had a play list on hand and it was nice to be able to talk without too much competition from a DJ who thinks s/he is the most important person in the room and thus plays everything at the maximum volume. Irene and I were in the mood to dance, a little, and so we did, a little… But everyone else was a little shy so we didn’t push it. The dance floor is excellent in that it is a proper sprung wooden floor, not just a piece of concrete cleared of chairs, which is sadly so often the case in many a club these days.

D had provided some very yummy finger eats, including prawns, meat balls, samoosas and other nibbles. I enjoyed my snacks immensely and the bartender was very skilled managing to make a pink drink (I do love my pink drinks) out of entirely non-alcoholic ingredients (I am not able to drink alcohol any more due to my dodgy liver). So, the food and drink were not only delicious but plentiful as well.

We have received some wonderful feedback from various people so far and below are just two of the fantastic comments received:
‘I really enjoyed it and the time flew by so quickly.”
‘ I honestly had such a good time on Saturday, I can’t really see how that could be made better.  Safe environment with like-minded people, I really enjoyed being out.’
After a few drinks some good conversation and more than a few laughs everyone left feeling content and happy.

We have already pencilled in the next Saturday night event (once again at Mantopia) for 17 December and we are also planning a mid-week outing for November (possibly a karaoke evening at Trouble. Anyone interested in Halloween parties should check out both Mantopia and Trouble as both are hosting parties on 29 October. These are not being done in conjunction with Priscilla’s Services but they do loom a lot of fun and there will certainly be a lot of crossdressers and other transgender folk at Trouble’s party. You can get excellent Halloween costumes from Lola Montez. She is very trans friendly, but if you are anxious we could also source something from her on your behalf (just give me a shout as soon as possible). I was there just a few weeks ago and she has a good selection of items in stock including a maid’s outfit, nurse’s outfits etc. We (Priscilla’s) also have a police woman’s outfit in stock (in addition to the usual selection of wigs, shoes etc) should anyone want to hire something and of course Irene is on hand to assist with makeup.

Thank you to everyone who came and who made it such a memorable evening for everyone who was there. We are looking forward to seeing more of you out there soon.

Reminder Cocktails and Dresses

This is a reminder about the Cocktail Party on 22 October at Mantopia.
The venue opens at 7 pm but the party starts at 8 pm until late.
The venue is at 128 Richards Drive, Allendale Junction, Midrand.
We (Priscilla’s) will be available for makeup/makeovers and help with dressing, either at the venue (there are private rooms for you to dress in) or off site (allowing you to arrive at the club en femme)

Please note that this is at a closed club and it is by invitation only so there is no chance of bumping into anyone who is not themselves a crossdresser/transgender or the partner of a CD/TG person. This means your privacy and security are guaranteed.
This is therefore the perfect opportunity for the shyer members of our community to get out there and socialise with other people.

The entry fee of R250 gets you in and includes the snacks that will be on offer.
Use PS Mantopia to get a 10% discount.
You can pay at the door.
There is a cash bar and dancing may happen. Be warned!

Please feel free to check out the Facebook ‘event’ page that we have created. It would be good to RSVP there as well if you can (privacy etc notwithstanding).

Please remember to pre-book with us if you want to make use of makeup or other services so that we can plan ahead.

We have already received a number of bookings so please let us know if you want to come along and join in the fun.

Looking forward to seeing you all!

Midweek Outing Mk 2

Hi Everyone

After the success of our last crossdresser/transgender person outing we have decided to have a second midweek outing.
We have again gone for Amuse Cafe (34 5th Street, Linden, Johannesburg) as it is a very good, accepting and tolerant venue; it is close to our dressing venue; it is cosmopolitan and relatively central for most people.

The date chosen is Tuesday 16 August 2016 at 7 pm. I am not sure what Amuse has planned at this time but the company will be good, the drinks plentiful and a fun night out is assured.

As noted above we can book the dressing facility for you at a very competitive rate and we will be on hand to help make you look fabulous. Having said that, Amuse is a very cool venue and your ability to pass (or otherwise) is irrelevant to us, the staff and the other patrons. What matters is that you be your authentic self. Feel at ease and are able to express yourself freely. We at Priscilla’s, in conjunction with Amuse will make that happen!

Looking forward to seeing you all soon. Please contact us asap so we can secure your booking. Also please feel free to contact us should you want any more information.

5 July: Our first outing

On Tuesday 5 July we had our first outing. We had had some people asking us if we did midweek evening outings as that was the only time they could get out and we were keen to try the concept. So we went ahead and made some plans.

It seemed that Tuesday was the most convenient day for all concerned and we selected Amuse Cafe in Linden as we wanted a safe and accepting venue where we could have a group of people that could be easily accommodated.  Dirck was very welcoming and his arrangements were perfect and spot-on.

Sadly one of our attendees had a bad motorcycle accent one week before the event and so she could not come. A number of other people canceled (which is to be expected) and the very cold weather certainly did not do us any favours. But despite all of this we still had a total attendance of eight people which we were very happy with.

Once again a big THANK YOU to all of you who braved the cold and came. Speaking for ourselves we had a lot of fun and it seems most of our guests did as well.

We were pleased to offer some of our guests the use of our ‘temporary dressing facility’. Whilst we are waiting for our permanent and dedicated venue to become available we have managed to find a local guest house to assist. The staff are accepting and professional as far as having a bunch of crossdressers/transgender people clicking through their guest house and we are confident you will feel safe and respected there until such time as our venue is up and running. The rooms are small, but adequate and above all clean. In fact the guest house is very new and thus everything feels very clean. The finishing is a bit rough and ready and it is not the most luxurious but it is adequate. The rates are also very competitive and we are sure you will all appreciate that.

After dressing we made our way to Amuse and waited for the rest of the guests to arrive. It was G’s first time out dressed and she did brilliantly. She looked fabulous and I was very impressed with her overall presentation. She looked like she had been going out and about for years.

At Amuse, I had a lively, impassioned and interesting discussion with Mike who is helping us with our web page (no, not this one, the new and improved version launching soon). Sadly he and his wife had to leave but we were soon joined by some others.

We had a lovely meal, the conversation flowed and I think we all learned something about each other and hopefully everyone felt welcomed and safe. I know I enjoyed myself immensely, especially meeting a few new people and getting some more insights.

Sadly the evening was over all too soon and we braved the cold as we left for home. We have discussed the evening and we are eager to do more such events. We would love to hear from you all with suggestions and thoughts so that we can better meet your needs and hopefully see a few more of you out there.

Sadly we forgot our camera at home (rookie error, I know) so we did not get any photographs… Next time. I promise!
