Autumn Nights

Well Sweetpeas, summer has come, and gone… Like a lover in the night, it has abandoned us to the sweet mercies of the cold hard truth of ever colder (and darker) mornings. We managed to get one last fling in before the seasons turned and Priscilla’s organised one of our midweek outings on 28 March.

We decided to impose ourselves on the good people at Trouble Bar. We have been somewhat remiss and have not been to the ‘new’ Trouble venue since they moved there almost two years ago. This was simply due to us being busy doing other things. As always, we were treated fantastically by Hilton and his staff were all professional and courteous in the extreme.

The evening started early for us. I raced home from a lunch time business meeting and started getting myself presentable. Irene was already hard at work as she had two makeovers to do. I did my usual beauty routine and chose an outfit and got myself ready. In the meantime, our friend Suzie arrived from work to get ready.

We were particularly pleased to have a visitor from Spain stay with us. She was in Johannesburg on business and had decided to extend her stay to include a little ‘personal’ time. She had visited us nearly two years ago and it was fantastic to renew the acquaintance.

Having completed everyone’s makeup Irene came in and started to get ready herself… She very kindly found a few spare minutes to ‘touch up’ my makeup and fix my most glaring errors. While she was getting ready Susanna, Suzie and I sat and chatted over a drink. Unfortunately, Liza could not join us as she was not yet ready and she needed to pick up a friend on the way to Trouble…

Then as always, a problem arose (come on, you know it wouldn’t be an undercover tgirl outing without some or other near disaster befalling us) … My reprobate dog sneaks out of the property any opportunity he has and goes and visits our elderly neighbour where he is thoroughly spoiled. Getting treats, being allowed to sleep with her in her bed etc. He had snuck out and been with her sometime. She phoned to ask us if we wanted him back. Erm… What to do? I was in full en femme mode and whilst I don’t mind what she thinks of me, I also do not want to give her a heart attack! Fortunately, Irene was by now ready and she performed operation dog rescue on my behalf!

There was time for a few quick photos and then we headed on to Trouble.

Nicci and Michelle were already at Trouble when we arrived. It was wonderful to see Hilton again after such a long time and it was nice to catch up with Nicci and Michelle too. Soon we were joined by Jenny as well. I was starting to get a little worried about Liza as I thought she should have arrived not long after us. She arrived a little while later, slightly flustered. She had been pulled over by the police on the way to us after picking up Stef… This is always a stressful occurrence. If your drivers’ licence does not match your presentation it leads to awkward questions and you can never be sure that the police won’t get ‘difficult’. I have personally never had a problem with the police (I have been pulled over twice) but I have heard of people who have been harassed by some police officers. Fortunately, Liza was ok and the police were not too problematic.
A lovely evening ensued and the food and drink flowed freely. I was impressed with my food. It was reasonably priced (I had one of the ‘specials’) and plentiful. It was also rather tasty! The pink drink I had was divine… I LOVE pink drinks.
Just as we had finished eating, Carla and Petrus arrived. It was Carla’s birthday that day and I was surprised but very happy to see her as I had not seen her for some time. HAPPY BIRTHDAY CARLA! Many selfies and photos were taken. Old acquaintances were renewed and some new connections forged. Everyone seemed to have a good time and we all enjoyed ourselves.

Then, a funny thing happened. I needed the toilet and managed to walk into the men’s facility by mistake! Fortunately, I was the only person using it at the time. This has been something of a recurring problem for me of late… A few weeks ago, I was at Rosebank Mall in male mode and I walked into the women’s toilets by mistake… Then at a school function a few days later (again in male mode) I NEARLY walked in to the women’s toilets… Clearly, I need to pay more attention to the way I am dressed and DOUBLE check signage before entering these facilities.
A big thank you to everyone who came out midweek to share in an evening of fun and friendship. I hope you all had as much fun as I think you did. As always thanks to Hilton for hosting us. We need to try and do these a little more frequently in future. Hopefully we can think of a FUN weekend activity in the near future… All ideas welcome!

October Newsletter

Hi Everyone

Hope you are all fabulous, I know I am loving the spring weather and enjoying life. It has been a while since my last newsletter, sorry, but my usual excuse applies… busy!

As usual I would like to welcome all our new clients to the Priscilla’s Services fold and of course extend a warm ‘hiya’ to all our existing clients. You are all very special to us and we are privileged to know you all.

We had a lovely evening of fashion and spring time fun at The OPC at the end of September. The turnout was slightly disappointing as we had five cancellations on the night and the attendance was a bit less than the first one we had in July, but as it was a weeknight, we were expecting fewer people. Nonetheless we all had a great time and it was getting late (well at least it was late for me) when everyone left, so that is a good sign. It was great to meet some new people and the support of the cisgender allies who were there is always appreciated. Thanks to you all for coming.

We were also treated to a most informative discussion on the latest fashion trends, by fashion professional and fellow blogger Ilse Chetty. She was engaging and informative and told us what the upcoming trends were for the season and crucially gave us all some tips on how to maximise our assets through clever clothing choices and combinations. I found it most enjoyable and useful.

As always, our host Lesley was most friendly and engaging. I always enjoy our little chats and I believe that the evening was a success from her point of view. The food was provided by The Boys Catering and it was very tasty indeed. As usual Lesley’s friend Zoe gave superb advice and her impeccable taste was very useful… She found me two spectacular items (a top and a dress) that I am looking forward to wearing soon.

Our studio has been rather busy of late and it has been a lot of fun meeting all our new clients. We are always privileged to help people on their unique journeys and love working with you all. Our existing clients are of course also highly valued and appreciated and we are really enjoying bonding with you and helping you all to find the time and place to be your true selves… as always in the privacy of your choosing and with discretion.

We took a short break in early October, but we are fully back in the saddle and happy to welcome any and all of your queries and enquiries. Don’t forget that we can assist you with any Halloween related needs that you may have. Halloween is always a good time for the more closeted of us to break some bonds and get out en femme… But it can also be a little ‘dangerous’ so let us help you if we can.

We are not planning on doing any more social events this year. We have found that things just get a bit hectic towards the end of the year and people just do not have the time to commit to things. However, there are always places to go and things to do, so if you want to make use of our dressing services, get a makeover, or just need a venue for a day (or night) of en femme fun, please feel to contact us. We are also available for accompanied outings should you want or need that.

Looking forward to seeing all of you at Priscilla’s soon.

Regards

The Priscilla’s Team

Time to Dress for Spring!

Following on the immense success of our last evening at The OPC, we have decided to reprise the event this spring. Here is all the salient information for you

Date: Wednesday 27 September 2017
Time: 7 pm
Place: 1 Sandela Court, corner Olifants and Levubu Roads, Emmarentia
Cost: R130 per person (includes snacks and drinks)

What is this? You may well ask.
Well, The OPC is a vintage clothing store. They have all sorts of amazing things in stock. Whether it is a ball gown, a wedding dress, a pair of 1990s Prada heels or a bikini from the 1960s, they have it in stock.
We are giving you this opportunity to have a sophisticated evening of socialising, meeting like-minded people and trying on these amazing clothes in a safe and accepting environment.

Plus, this is a wonderful opportunity to refresh and extend your spring and summer wardrobe with some amazing and unique clothes. Clothes that you will definitely not find in the stores. Why follow the crowd when you can be an original?

As an added bonus, Ilse Wils Chetty, a merchandise planner at Jet and a lifestyle and fashion blogger will be giving us a talk on ‘What is hot for summer and how to make it your own’. This will hopefully give us all some insight into fashion trends and some ideas for that wardrobe.

Lesley, the owner of The OPC is a member of the LGBT community and as such is welcoming and accepting. She is putting on some eats and drinks, has agreed to extend her opening hours for us and will also ensure that the interior of the shop is not visible to any prying eyes.

Some of you found the last event difficult to get to as it was on a Friday. We are hoping that by moving this to a Wednesday you will find it easier to attend. So why not come around have some fun, meet some sisters and maybe even buy some clothes (or some jewellery).

We will need to have an idea of numbers for catering purposes, so we would appreciate it if you can book with us by no later than 22 September, to book your tickets, simply click here and give us your name and number of tickets required and we will reserve your place. To pay for your tickets you can simply click on the ‘BUY NOW’ button to the right (or maybe bottom if you are using a mobile device to browse) of this page. It is just under the ‘PAY WITH PAYPAL’ heading. This will enable you to pay us using a credit card or your PayPal account (if you have one). Alternatively, please contact us and we will make an alternative arrangement for you.
Please note that this is a private event and that you must book and pay in advance. No ‘walk ins’ will be accepted.

Of course, anyone needing a place to dress for the evening, help with makeup, a place to stay or any other services should contact us so that we can assist you.

Should you have any other queries please do not hesitate to contact us. We look forward to seeing you all on 27 September.

Irene at Work: Melissa

As noted previously, a number of our clients prefer to remain as discrete and private as possible. We totally understand and ‘get’ that. It does however make ‘advertising’ our service a bit tricky. Melissa came to one our social events last year and got her makeup done by Irene. She has very kindly agreed to share her pictures from that wintry night with us all. Doesn’t she look great?

Irene always does the kind of style and ‘look’ you want. I think Melissa looks lovely and naturally feminine here. A great look for her. Nothing over the top, nothing too extreme. Just a woman looking her best for an evening out.

If you are interested, you can always book a session and see just how amazing and beautiful a good makeover can make you feel!
