Exciting news! We are planning not one but two outings in September. One midweek and one on a Saturday, so there are no excuses.
Firstly, time for something completely new. A book launch! Priscilla’s Services assisted an author (Maire Fisher) with ideas on how to represent a non-binary character in her new novel (The Enumerations) earlier this year. The book is being launched in Johannesburg in September and we have been invited to the book launch. We thought it would be a fun evening for you all to come with and as there is a transgender character (non-binary people fall on the transgender spectrum) the theme kind of works. Here are the details:
When: Thursday 13 September
Time: To be advised, probably around 6 pm or so
Where: Love Books The Bamboo Lifestyle Centre, 53 Rustenburg Road, Melville
Entrance is free but it would be a good idea to support the South African publishing industry, so why not buy a book, or two?
We know this is a little early but don’t despair, we can always go somewhere else for a meal, a drink and a natter afterwards. There are plenty of options in Melville or we are always welcome at Amuse.
We would love to see you there, whether you can come en femme or en homme or whatever…
Secondly, it is time for Slutwalk again. As usual we will be there to add our voices as a protest against sexual assault. It is absolutely a safe space for you to be. There are always a few gender non-conforming people around and your safety is assured. So please join us on the march. We then plan on going somewhere nice for lunch after the march. We haven’t quite decided where yet, but we are thinking of a pizzeria in Northcliff or perhaps a nice restaurant/cafe in Parkhurst or Linden. We are open to suggestions… So why not join us on the march, it would be fantastic to see you all, and then we can have a lovely lunch and a chat afterwards.
When: Saturday 29 September
Time: 10 am
Where:Pirates Sports Club, Greenside
Entrance is free but a donation towards rape survivors would be appreciated
Hope to see you at one, or both, of these fantastic opportunities to socialise. Please contact us should you need more information and please remember you are more than welcome to come dressed however you like.
Irene will be available to help you if required.
Apologies for the radio silence over the last few weeks. Unfortunately Daniella has been rather ill. She had been feeling under the weather for quite some time and then in mid May she finally took herself off to the doctor. Nothing conclusive was found and then after a day she took a turn for the worse. After relaying the worsening symptoms to the doctor over the phone he suggested a trip to casualty was in order.
On arrival a battery of tests were done and it was determined that her gall bladder was rather unwell and that a larger (18mm diameter) gall stone had taken up residence. So off to theater at 10 pm that night it was.
Unfortunately due to previous abdominal surgery, the usual key hole surgery could not be performed and instead a full laparotomy had to be performed. So much for the bikini modelling career then! Anyway, the operation went off well, the stone and gall bladder were removed and all seemed well at first.
A day was spent in ICU, when things took a turn for the worse and it was determined that a second procedure was required to fix the ducts between the liver and the intestine. So back to theater we went. This procedure was fortunately performed by inserting a camera down her throat so no more unsightly wounds ensued.
Things started looking up and after a week in ICU, three days were spent in a general ward and Daniella came home on the Friday. Then on Saturday night she started feeling sick again. Back to hospital we went. It was determined that she had a partial obstruction in the small intestine (a complication we had been warmed about). Another week was spent in hospital, but fortunately the obstruction resolved itself without need for further surgery.
At this time Daniella was really very unwell and hardly ate at all. She lost a lot of weight and was very weak and lacking in energy. She has been home for a week now, but is still not fully recovered and gets tired quite quickly. She is also on a special diet for a few weeks to help ensure that no further relapses/complications occur.
We will sadly therefore not be able to host our planned outing in June or July. Firstly we simply have not had the time to plan this. Secondly, we don’t think it is a good idea for her health and finally she is probably not the best of company right now. However, we hope to make this up to you by doing something special in spring, or as soon as we are able. I hope that you all understand and are prepared to bear with us.
In happier news, we are pleased to announce that we have just launched a second venue. As some of you know, the studio was somewhat oversubscribed and we were sometimes unable to meet your needs leading to some frustration. We have therefore launched Priscilla’s Suite. This is a much bigger venue. It consists of a separate bedroom, a bathroom and an open plan living area, dining area and kitchen. It is fully appointed and is at the same specification levels that you have come to expect from us.
We hope that this additional venue will allow us to better meet your needs and lead to less frustration. We are also confident that it will offer an even better experience with more room, better options for selfies etc. As always, safe discrete and free parking as well as free Wi-Fi is on offer.
Please remember that the studio and the suite are available for use on an ad hoc basis should you wish to dress there for the day. W are also available for overnight stays and should you need additional anonymity you can even book with us through Booking.com or AirBnB. We are of curse available for all our usual services (storage, makeup, advice, transformations etc) and these services can either be purchasd on an ad hoc basis or through one of our ever popular packages that offer exceptional value for money.
Hope to see you soon and once again apologies for missing the mid year function. We hope you all understand.
Due to an ever increasing demand for our services, we have had to expand. Happily an existing space on pour property has become available and we are pleased to inform you that we in addition to the Priscilla’s Studio experience, we will soon be able to offer the Priscilla’s Suite experience.
Priscilla’s Suite will be a larger space for you to use if so desired. It will consist of an open plan living room and full kitchen area. The living room will have a television, sleeper couches and other creature comforts. The kitchen will be fully equipped with a stove, microwave, fridge, kettle coffee machine etc and this will give you many more options than we can currently offer you.
There will of course be a bedroom as well as a full bathroom.
The suite will offer plenty of space for you to use in any way you wish, and it will also accommodate more overnight guests than we can currently manage.
We are in the middle of renovating the space to ensure that it meets the same standards as you have come to expect from Priscilla’s Services.
We hope to have the space completed by the end of May and look forward to welcoming many more of you to make use of our extensive range of services, that have all been designed with you in mind.
In the meantime, Priscilla’s Studio remains fully operational and is unaffected by the renovations, so why not book a makeover, a transformation package or even a night or two with us and let all your dreams come true?
Don’t forget our May Madness Sale on accommodation. Book FOUR nights at the studio and you only pay for three! Feel free to contact us for more details, or to avoid disappointment simply book today!
We were privileged to make a new friend last weekend. Carol was visiting South Africa on business and at the last minute decided to spend a night at Priscilla’s Services.
Despite a rather late arrival time (Ma Winnie’s funeral was playing havoc with the airlines), we managed to get Carol transformed, made-up and looking ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS before heading out to the ever welcoming Amuse for a drink or two.
Unluckily for us we arrived after the band had finished their gig. Luckily for us one of the musos was trying to drive up his bar tab so we each got a free drink. Dirck was his usual friendly self and made us both feel very welcome. As it was a little quiet we came home and Carol was happy to spend a night in comfort in our well appointed studio before departing all too soon for home.
A fun night was had and we were just happy to be of service to a traveler looking for a fun and safe night out en femme! If you are ever in town, why not look us up it is amazing what we can do on short notice… Having more time is ALWAYS better though!
PS: are those shoes not to die for! She brought them with her and she was lucky to leave with them!!! <Joke>
We had our first social of 2018 at Amuse Cafe in Linden on Tuesday night… and what a night it was. For those who couldn’t make it, here is some information to fuel your regret.
The night was billed as a Summer Nights Social. The idea was to provide gender non-conforming people in Gauteng, regardless of how they identify, with an opportunity to meet up, chat and generally just socialise in an informal, friendly and accepting environment. My good friend Anna from the Emporium of Delights and All Things Nice kindly agreed to bring some of her costume jewellery stock with her, so there was something to do if the conversation got a bit boring.
We had started advertising the event just over a month ago and there had been quite a bit of interest in the event, but you never know how many people will turn up on the night. I was expecting somewhere between 10 and 15 people based on the interest levels we had, but we have had events where we were expecting 20 people and only a handful arrive, and we have had events where we were only expecting five people and then 15 arrive on the night. I was therefore very pleased that in the end 13 people arrived over the course of the evening. This is a very good turnout for a weeknight and we were very happy. A big thank you to everyone who turned out to support us. Organising these events takes a fair bit of effort and we literally make nothing out of the event, so events that are poorly supported can be very soul destroying. When we get a decent turn out, my heart literally sings.
As usual, I had some dressing ‘challenges’ of my own to overcome (you can read all about them in a few days’ time at Daniella’s Ramblings if you so wish). I was somewhat unsure what to wear. Should I be casual (Amuse is a fairly casual venue) or should I glam it up? Or what? I settled on a pair of skinny jeans, my new off the shoulder pink top, beige cowboy boots and some accessories. Luckily Irene had some spare time and was able to do my makeup for me. I think she did a fantastic job.
After dressing, makeup and a few errands (for more details please read my personal blog), I arrived at the venue just before 6 as I wanted to make sure that I was on time and be able to assist Dirck (from Amuse) with information (or anything else) should he need it. I was sitting at the table Dirck had reserved for us (thanks Dirck), sipping a coke and responding to WhatsApp’s when someone walking past asked me (very politely), ‘excuse me, but are you Daniella?’ I looked up and saw someone, a good looking young man to be sure, standing in front of me. I had no idea who they were. I looked blankly at him and said that indeed I was. He could see that I was at a complete loss and said, ‘you may know me as Heidi’. OMG it was my Facebook friend and local drag queen Heidi van Kleef. I had only met Heidi in real life once before, at a show of hers and I had never seen her without her glitter, hair and heels before. The presence of a beard also threw me off the scent to be fair. We were able to spend some time catching up on the outdoor veranda (it was a very pleasant late summer evening) and actually talking to one another in person. It was lovely.
Soon some guests started to arrive. Heidi had been asked by Dirck to stand in as host(ess?) for the evening as he had to attend an urgent meeting. Anna was the first to arrive and she joined us, and we celebrated Heidi’s recent promotion at her day job with her. Then Nicole arrived. Anna, who lives so far in the East of Johannesburg that we have to check the time zones before phoning her, had never been to Amuse before. She seemed quite taken by the charm of the place. Then she noticed the sculpture of the naked male torso. She felt compelled to touch it and I managed to get photographic evidence before dragging her away from it.
Clearly it was time to move in doors… Claire, Liza, Grizelda and Irene all arrived in quick succession and soon we were all happily chatting away. The service was good as always and our throats were soon lubricated. After a long day hard at work most people were hungry, and I think almost everyone ordered something to eat. The food was up to the usual standard and one of the things I really like about Amuse is the portion size. Many restaurants charge a lot more for a plate of food and they seem compelled to compensate by giving you far too much to eat. Amuse follows a less aggressive pricing strategy and their portion sizes are smaller, but I find this preferable. It is a far more ‘European’ model (as opposed to what I have seen at North American restaurants) and I think it sets Amuse apart. It also makes an evening out far more affordable.
After everyone was finished Anna opened her box of tricks and a number of people sampled her range of accessories that were on offer. It seems she was happy enough with the amount of stock she sold, so thanks to everyone who supported her.
I really enjoyed myself and it was fantastic to meet so many people new to the scene in Johannesburg. And of course, it was fantastic to catch up with old friends and talk with people who we seldom get to interact with face to face. I particularly enjoyed meeting Michelle in person. We have been on line friends for a very long time but had never met in person before and seeing all the other new faces made me very happy too.
I hope everyone had as much (or more) fun as me. As to all of you who would like to come to one of our events but have not been able to, all I can say is that you are missing out. There is no need to come en femme if you are too scared (although there is no reason to be scared) and nobody will judge you for what you wear. We would love to meet you all in a fun, relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Hope to see you at the next one (watch this space for details).
Once again, a big thank you to everyone who came out and I hope to see you all again soon. Thank you to Anna for providing us all with an opportunity to acquire more bling and of course thank you to Dirck and the rest of the Amuse team for being professional and so welcoming to our little community. Finally, a big thank you to Irene who did people’s makeup on the night, was such a good hostess and who helps and supports me so much!

Just a quick note, due to ongoing difficulties with a service provider, our priscillasservices.co.za e-mail addresses are down. They have been down since early in the new year and we are finding it difficult to get a resolution. Much finger pointing is involved. In the meantime, please use the contact us page which uses an alternative e-mail address, so your query will reach us. Should you have sent a query to the priscillasservices.co.za addresses, please resend.
We would like to wish all our clients, supporters and friends a very happy festive season. We would also like to thank you all for your amazing support throughout 2017. We value our relationships with each and everyone of you and hope to deepen and further this in the coming months.
Be fabulous, be safe and have fun.
We are ready and able to assist you with any of your beauty, makeup, crossdressing, transformation, shopping, storage and other needs and hope to see you all in 2018.
Look out for news of our next social/meet and greet (planned for February 2018) early in the New Year.
Seasons Greetings from all at the Priscilla’s Team
We were recently privileged to host Liza in our studio. Liza is an out of town girl who sometimes travels to Johannesburg on business. She likes to take advantage of the time in a different city to get out and about en femme as much as possible. She has all her own clothes and is an accomplished applier of her own makeup. She really only needs a friendly place to sleep where if she is spotted she will not feel judged or unsafe. She has therefore only ever used us for accommodation in the past as she has little need of our other crossdressing services.
She was visiting us last week and we were, as ever, very happy to host her. She mentioned that now that she is a more mature lady it was taking her longer to get ready as she has to work harder on her makeup. I reminded her that Irene was on site and would be happy to assist.
As her schedule was tight she said she would give it a go as at the very least getting the makeup done would reduce her time taken to get ready thus allowing more time for fun. Irene obliged and we were very happy to see just how good Liza looked and more importantly how happy Liza was with the result.
I would say Irene took 15 to 20 years off her and in half the time it would take Liza to apply the makeup on her own. She looks really feminine and happy.
Liza said : ‘Irene of Pricilla’s Services in Jhb worked this magic with her amazing make over! She turned an aging trannie into an attractive woman with the brush work of an angel Thank you sooooooo much!!!!’
We always feel so privileged when we have helped one of our clients to feel like the beautiful woman that we always knew was hidden away inside. Look forward to seeing you again soon Liza, hopefully we can synchronise diaries better so that we can join you for some time out and about next time.
